Clarkii is a digger?

Is this normal? I have a Clarkii that is literally digging holes all over the tank in the sand... he backs into the hole and then "wags his tail" throwing sand all over the place. He's dug out a couple of my live rock pieces, causing a collapse of one side of my rock structure already. What the heck is he doing??? He's the only fish in the tank right now, so it's not a laying eggs thing...
Sorry if this is a dumb question. :)

From what I understand it is just what they do. My SI Percs do the same thing, why i'm not sure, maybe they are prepairing a spawnining site i don't really know but IIRC clarkii are known for being diggers.

I once had a Clarkii and.he did the same... I think that is his hoasting behavoir

My old mated pair of clarkii's did the same thing, I call them clean freaks they wanted nothing around their anemone ( sand, corals, algae, etc. )

My stupid percs do the same thing to whatever corner they are hosting that day. Frankly it makes me insane.

That was the main reason I sold my mated pair of Clarkiis, after having them for 12 years. Their digging was so bad that they were digging around their S. Haddoni, causing it to move.

Mine were digging tons of holes at first but not they are not digging that many anymore, they use used them for sleeping. I set up the rocks afterwards different then their digging slowed down when they had a spot behind the rock for sleeping.

Well I rearranged my rock work and have added some more corals in the tank. I am hoping that they will utilize any new areas where they may be less flow for sleeping instead of the darn holes they dig in the two front corners!
