Clean up crew vs no clean up crew

So people with fish only tanks, that have fish that are known for eating inverts. What are you doing to not need a clean up crew? Why is it that only reef tanks need the clean up crew. I ask because there are fish I want for my reef tank and they are not reef safe because they may eat shrimp snails or crabs. Thanks.

I don't have a FO tank and have very little inverts, but algae needs nutrients in order to live. All CUCs do is cover a symptom. IMO only get inverts you want... You don't need 100 snails they will eventually die.

Thank you for the reply. It seems like it's one of those things people say you need just because that's what they where told. I really want a red Coris wrasse and if I glue my coral down well I should have an issue. Just not sure which inverts it will eat
