Is there anything I can Put in with my S&S puffer that would be safe? Maybe a hermit crab?

Most will say no but it really depends on the fish. I had a porc puffer in a 55g with a bunch of snails and hermits. He was fine with them for about a year and a half. Then one day he started picking them off. You could throw a few snails in and see what happens.
