John is a great guy. His info fill out page is great. Just instert your tanks info and he will reach out to you with what he recommends. Great prices too. In my opinion liveaquaria is very pricey.

They recommend 1 CUC member per gallon of water... Seems a bit excessive to me, but I went with one of the liveaquaria packs and they are all doing well (have about 15 hermits, a Nassarius, 2 turbos, 2 emerald crabs, 5 smaller snails, a cleaner shrimp in my 32BC)

Do yourself a favor and skip the crabs. They will just eat each other and your snails.

Thx everyone for help! I am fighting with GHA so thought about increasing CUC.Maybe i just wait a bit,few water changes and than see what's going to happen.

I will never get hermit crabs ever again. they wipe out my snails all the time and steal the shells... even though I put bigger shells into the tank for the crabs to switch to

I would rather get dwarf hermit crabs. Big one will eat snails
No. The little ones will eat your snails and each other too.

It is a common misconception that hermits kill snails for their shells. They kill them to eat them. If they happen to like that shell they will use it. But make no mistake they will kill ANY snail they can.

I've had 15 dwarf (red and blue legged) hermits in my tank along side 5 similar in size snails for over two months and all of my snails are accounted for... Either my tank is filthy enough, or I'm just lucky. Lol

The only time I've ever seen any of my crabs attack snails was if the snail was allready dead, dieing, or if there weren't enough shells of all shapes and sizes to go around. Now I make sure to keep plenty of extra shells laying around in the corner of the tank to prevent fighting and murderous rage. Once I started keeping these extra shells, I haven't witnessed a single shell related homicide between any of my CUC.

I will however say that a lot of these websites that sell pre-selected cleanup crews and monthly/bi-monthly "refresher packs" are simply to move more product. I, like many others have bought these packs only to end up seeing the damn things starve, even in a well matured tank. When I would order, I would see a 50% die off over the next couple months, then the remaining crew would survive much, much, much longer due to there only being enough mouths to feed that my tank can support. From my experience, whatever these websites tell you that you need, half it. This may also be a reason I don't see my crabs attack snails, because there is enough food for everybody, minimal competition.

So which is better for a CUC then? Hermits or snails? I've never had any luck with snails lasting very long even with an overabundance of algae to eat.
