Cleaner clam placement help

I know that my new cleaner clam isn't exactly the type of clams discussed in this forum but I have a question.
The place I got it from said they are good for the refugium, but I wanted to put it in my main tank, thinking it would open up to eat and be cool for my kids to see. Well it hasn't done a thing other than stay totally closed.
Do they ever open up? Do they prefer the shade?

I have tried to search for some answers about them, but can't find much info. So any help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Reef Central.

Haven't heard them called that yet. :)

I would highly recommend getting some good reading material on keeping Tridacnid's if this is what you have. Most of the Tridacnid require intense lighting to keep their color. They will filter out some nitrates and phosphates but will not eat particals per say.

A recommended book for keeping clams is Daniel Knop, " Giant Clams"
