Cleaner Shrimp 1, Rhizo 0

My cleaner shrimp keep stealing the food from my Rhizo. So, I move the Rhizo into my sump. (since it is alot easy to catch than my shrimp)

It just doesn't extend as much as it use to be. It is eating table shrimp three time a week. How much current does it need?

TIA

Chi

They do not require much current at all; A low-moderate current is sufficient.

This is the reason I do not keep any shrimp in my non-photosynthetic reef

I do keep cleaners with mine, I just need to guard the rhzyos with my stick and beat down the shrimp till the rhyzo swallows his meal. Reason being if the wife saw me get rid of her shrimp it would be the end NPS zone in the tank

ROTFLMFAO!!!

Gotta keep the wifey happy! ;)

We attached a piece of rigid air tube to the top half of a plastic water bottle to use as a handle. I hold it over corals after I feed them. Depending on the size of your Rhizo, you could use the upper part of a litre bottle too. It only takes a few minutes for them to feed and it frustrates shrimp and other thieves.

If its not extending much, its probably so used to being harassed by the shrimp that it stays closed as a protective mechanism from the stupid shrimp. ;)

Personally I wouldn't keep any Lysmata sp with stoney NPS that are fed. Even if they don't harass the coral during feeding they'll return later and probe the oral cavity for scraps. IME this will definitely affect polyp extension.

I also have keep 2 cleaners w/ my NPS, my stategy is simple. Before feeding the NPS I give each shrimp apiece of table shrimp. Then I go ahead and feed the corals. works like a charm.
