cleaner shrimp not reef safe?

so yeah, i have a crocea clam and yesterday, while i was eating dinner and watching my 125 reef tank, i watched as one of my cleaner skunk shrimp walks right up to my clam and attempts to..."clean" the mantle. of course the clam immediately closed tight. I thought that maybe the shrimp was being a pain in the butt and just messing with my clam, cause he does similiar things to my zoanthids. Now this afternoon, i noticed that once again my power was out,but it's only been out for 30 minutes max. and that my clam is basically dead. Barely open and it's foot has been torn/fallen off. I keep my clam in the sand so it doesnt plant onto anything. Also my starfish is looking progressively worse.

Anyone have any idea?

i also have a maxima and it's doing fine....

The only problem I've had with them (I've got 2 in my 120) is that they're "food stealers." I've been trying for weeks to target feed my rapidly-dwindling BTA and they keep taking the silverside pieces right out of its tenacles :(

wardworld, I had that same problem....what you do is get a turkey baster, target feed your BTA and if that skunk gets near you swing your turkey baster at him like its a bat...He'll remember that next time. Mine are fully trained, they wait in the sand now for something to drop.

Gimplar, they are pretty reef safe in my set up. I started out with 3 and Im down to 1 now...I guess that makes only one that learned from this technique wardworld.

wardworld, ive got a BTA as well, and i have the same problem, i just cut the fish into small enough pieces so that the TBA can swallow it before they can steal it. I also feed the shrimp and distract them while i feed my corals, but regardless shrimps can be a pain in the ***.
