Cleaner shrimp picking at my clam why?

This one might have a simple answer but last night I noticed my cleaner shrimp at one end of my clam picking inside of him and he wouldn't stop even after the clam became irritated and closed a few times. For some reason the clam is still opening up exept for that side the shrimp was picking at. I wasn't sure what to make of it and then again right now he is going to town on one side of the clam again. Any idea whats going on?

I have had the clam for about 3 weeks and the shrimp for about 3 months.

Unfortunately, shrimp will often go after clams that are on the decline. Checks for pyram. snails or other pests, and check to make sure all is well with the clam. If it is in need of treatemnt, remove the clam or the shrimp until well.

I agree. Cleaner Shrimp will usually not bother a healthy clam. Could there be something going on with the clam?

I move the clam to an area where it won't be irritated by the clam. The shrimp can eventually harrass the clam to death.
