cleaner shrimp

I just got a cleaner shrimp for my tank on wednesday and I just found it dead. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can prevent this from happening again.

there are a lot of factors. first check if it is just a molt. i thought my first cleaner shrimp died, but found it under a ledge.

i always temp acclimate inverts for about 15 minutes and then drip acclimate for 2-4 hours. i feed the tank, shut the lights, and drop the invert into the tank. i've been successful so far.

what was your process?

my skunk cleaner shrimp's molt have the red and white colors. what's cool about the skunk cleaners is that the molt continues to mimic the action of a live shrimp swaying back and forth. my peppermint shrimp's molt are clear but i haven't observed any other characteristics.

I had problems in my older 55 gallon tank with keeping them alive. After i moved the tank to a 130 i put 2 in and both are doing great. I did find a rusty screw in my tank during the swap, but other than that nothing. Look around your tank for a piece of metal or rust. Also is the tank new or used, and do you have any other inverts / corals?

That's really unfortunate about the cleaner. Being somewhat a shrimp connoisseur myself, had lots of experience with these little guys. Typically shrimp are sensitive to Ph and salinity shifts and should be drip acclimated slowly to overcome this (2 hours). It is common for them to molt during shipment, upon arrival, or sometime soon thereafter. They are the most vulnerable to change and predators during this stage, but will generally do well if acclimated like stated above.

Like others have said, the molts look uncannily like the real deal, so be sure he's actually dead before you give up on him. :D
