Cleaning 25' Python Syphon

My syphon has gotten to the point to where the inside is almost black. It's kept in an outside storage closet on my patio. The outside of the tubing gets really dirty in-between water changes so I can only imagine what kind of dirt has become caked onto the inside of the tubing. The syphon is used to both drain and refill the aquarium.

I would like to clean the inside of the tubing somehow but not really sure of the best method. My idea so far is to fill a plastic storage bin with tap water, mix in a lot of vinegar, and run a pump with the hose attached for a day or two. I'm not sure how effective this will be. I've found one thread online regarding this and the consensus was to use bleach. I would like to avoid using bleach if possible.

Let me know your ideas and if anything has worked for you in the past. Thanks!

Feed string trimmer line through it and tie a bottle brush to it and pull it through. Flush it out and repeat if needed.

+1^

I also go a step further though and pour some vinegar in the hose and let it sit about an hour first before running the brush through.

I usually fill my garage sink ( slop sink) with a bleach water solution and suck it into the hose. Then just let it sit for 2-3 hours. Then drain it and fill the sink with a strong dechlorinator solution and let that sit for a hour or so. Cleans it right up.
I have been using the same hose for 15-16 years.

It would be tough feeding a string through 25' of hose. Fill up a tub with water and vinegar, and lower the hose into it slowly making sure the air escapes out of the open end and fills up with water. Let it soak a day, then hook a pump up and let it cycle.

You don't have to hook up a pump to it.
It's got it's own pump.
Hook it up to a facet and it will fill on it's own.
