Can a BK 300 (internal) be cleaned using muric acid?

I try and do a real deep cleaning of components once a year (or so) and I was curious if the BK 300 can be cleaned using muriatic acid and water (vs getting sufficient vinegar to clean it).

I try to do a deep clean of components about every year or so and it's time for the skimmers 1st cleaning (I usually clean the pump and that isn't too difficult to do using vinegar).

Thanks.

I personally wouldn't use muriatic acid as I think it can cause crazing (sp?) in the acrylic itself. I would recommend using a diluted vinegar, 1:1 ratio with water.

I've cleaned many skimmers with good success using this method:

Put the skimmer in a tote of sufficient size to hold it, and room for plenty of water. Fill the tote with tap water and pour in some bleach. You dont need to make this very strong. Let it run for a day or so.

Empty out the bleach water and rinse the skimmer and tote. Refill with tap water and pur in a couple of gallons of white vinegar. Start up the skimmer. It should make a nice foam. Adjust so it is overflowing the cup. Let it run like that for a day. It should be squeaky clean after that.

DO NOT MIX BLEACH AND VINEGAR!! It makes a toxic chlorine gas.

NP. Hope it was useful. Ken is such an incredible resource on the Neptune forum, I was trying to return the favor.
