Cleaning a mag drive 7 return

I've been noticing a gradual drop in performance, so I thought it needed cleaned. I took it apart, cleaned the best I could but couldn't really see any gunk. The impeller and housing seemed clean. Am I missing something or could the pump be failing? I didn't but it new, so I can't say how old it is.

plumbing could be getting clogged elsewhere in the return to your tank and you are assuming its the pump.
