Cleaning a Vortech

I do it whenever a pump looks dirty or starts to perform inconsistently. I have some pretty agressive coraline growth in my tank, so just for aesthetic reasons alone I clean all my pumps at least once a month. When I let it go, they get too nasty and start to give me problems. A clean pump is a good pump! :)

I think most if not all the metal parts on the wet side are stainless steel. Why do you ask?

Just curious, I have never seen any company use bolts like that on pumps before. I guess its alot stronger. Only thing is, stainless steel does rust.

Mine has a large hex bolt on it and wondered.

The line of work I am in, i return stainless steel grills all the time for rusting!

yes, stainless does rust, and there are many formulas that oxidize at different rates. I have no idea what formula they are using, but the only rust I have seen on my has been entirely superficial and just comes off with a toothbrush. I have seen some extreme cases online, but not in person. The rust really doesn't matter IMO. Most powerheads are using the same materials.
