cleaning clam shell?

Just wondering on something..might be a dumb question. I have about a clam in my old tank which is still set up at my in-laws which has been neglected. The clams shell has some algae growing on it and I would like to clean it off before introducing it to the new tank since I am starting out with dry rock and new sand in the new tank. I don't want to bring anything unwanted into the tank. Is this possible?

take is out, scrape it with a toothbrush be careful with the foot and the top part of the shell, you dont want to scrape any of the flesh...

I have 2 clams and I cleaned them this way before introducing them in order to clean any unwanted snails...

when u are done, put it in the tank and turn it in every angle possible in order to take all the air our, I believe they call it "burp" the clam or something like that

I've read that clams can be out of water for several minutes with no problem. (You would want to verify this) I would think that a toothbrush could clean much of the shell, taking care to avoid the mantle and foot.
