"cleaning" Live rock question

Ok folks, been adding pieces throughout the week. And now I have pictures. One thing for sure, I have to get another pump for water movement. It sure has cut it down.

Also forgive the crappy camera. All the coraline also saturates the picture to alot of purple. But you can see the new pieces that are just white.

Nice tank! I am so jealous of all the purple and the butterfly. I wish I had my butterfly sill. :-( Best of luck to ya.

Thank you. I know that having alot of coraline means a healthy tank. I attribute it to the VHO's its not too intense but perfect amount for coraline.

I also heard that coraline actually seals the rock so that it becomes less and less porous thus much less capacity for nitrifying bacteria. Dont know if thats true or not.

Hum... I had never thought of that, but I suppose that is true. Perhaps that is a good reason why it might not be a bad idea to have some rocks in a shaded area. On talkingreef.com not to long ago they had a video tutorial on creating a fuge in a PVC pipe. I debated on wether or not it would be a good thing to have a dark fuge.

I could see coraline filling in a lot of holes in the rocks exposed to light in your tank. I think in the display tank the isn't a huge deal, but it does make one think that a dark fuge might have a little bit more of a benefit to the bio diversity having more porous rock. The one thing one has to consider though is if the nano rock has photosynthetic organisms in them they will be dying off for at least a month. I think too much.

Tank itself is 90gal, the sump is 30 gal but running half capacity obviously, and a fuge tank of 10 gal.

The skimmer is an ASM G2. Think shouldve gone with the G3 but with the mesh mod, and recirc mod, its not too bad.
