Cleaning sand

I got a bunch of free sand yesterday and am checking to see if I can use tap water to rinse it out. Its in a cooler and a bucket and I don't wanna use ro water for rinsing unless I have too.

Suggestions.

Its dirty sand.

I't will fill it full of Phosphates, coppers and metals. All the stuff that you use an R/O sysmete to NOT get in your tank the sand will absorb them. But that's JMHO. :)

I'm guessing he is replying to this part of your post. You: "I don't wanna use RO unless I have to" Him: You have to.

I don't really know if you can use tap water or not. It sure would be easier.

I'm just here to help everyone communicate. :D

when i cleaned the sand out of my tank when i fixed it. i just filled about 6 buckets half full and filled with a hose and drained off the top. i did this about 6 or 7 times in each bucket. I could not immagine using ro water to do it. it may not be the proper way to do it but i did not have any trouble. A little algae bloom but was gone as fast as it came. I did a couple of water changes the week i put the tank back online.

I would rinse it thoroughly with tap water and then rinse it in RODI.

I was thinging more in line with what nook just said.

This would take a great amount of RO water to do. Tap out the hose will have some pressure.
