One of the first additions to my tank was a cleaner shrimp - and boy am I glad I got him. I bought a Tomini Tang and a Potters Angel from a guy who runs copper in his system. I know my tank is supposed to be too young to get an angel, but I could not pass on this fish because (a) he's gorgeous and (b) he was eating mysis. He now eats NLS, mysis, brine, bloodworm, all the algae on t he walls and especially by the powerheads and he even grazes all day
{see pic below}
I was leaving the algae on the back wall of my tank for the Kole Tang I had in Quarantine, but he died (I have been having lots of issues with my QT and very few with me main tank.)
So I needed a tang and was introduced to the good looking and smalles of tnags, the Tomini. Of course I was a little nervous about no quarantine for a tang, but when I found out about the copper, I thought I would chance it.
Fast forward to the morning after I released the fish, and I notice a lone inch speck which may or may not be an ich spot. Naturally, I am one step from panic, but I notice the tang spending lots of time by the cleaner shrimp. To be safe and knowing full well that I would not be using my QT, I bought a cleaner goby.
Over the next couple of days, I noticed another couple of spots on the tang, but honestly the are more tan than white, so I don;t know what they are. But he keeps getting cleaned and as of now, he has no spots at all.
Can the cleaner gobies and cleaner shrimp really help control a disease? Between the copper and the color of hte spots and that there were only about 3 spots over 3 days, I doubt ich was involved at all, but it was still really cool to see how the shrimp went off on the blemishes.
