Cleaning the gap in the overflow

I bought a used tank and I'm trying to clean it up. It seems like there was a vermatid snail infestation and in trying to clean it all up before I restablish the tank. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to get into the small gap of the overflow that I might be overlooking. Everything seems pretty solid and I really don't want to cut apart and disassemble the entire thing. The best idea I've had thus far is using a long metal rod to stick down there and knock them all off the wall. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Cheers!

You might want to try using some vinegar and a stiff brush to clean the overflow. The longer you allow things to soak in the vinegar the easier it will be to remove them.
