cleaning used tank? / redoing stand

I just bought a used 90 gallon tank for really cheap and it has a bunch of coraline and algae on the glass. What is the easiest and most effective way to clean this off? Also, the overflow has a bunch of gunk inside of it and was wondering how to clean all that out to? Can you power wash and aquarium and overflow

The stand is also very dirty and has a bunch of water spots on it. Should I sand it down and re-stain it? There is also no center brace on the top of the stand, should i put one in? What kind of paint can i use on the inside of the stand to make it waterproof? I want to add a bottom board to the stand and make sure that it is completely waterproof and aquarium safe.

Thanks for any help!

I bought a used 75 gallon. We used a razor blade to clean the excess coralline and other algae off the glass and then wiped down everything with white vinegar and rinsed with regular water. My tank has been running for over a year with no problems.

Ok I think i might be able to help on your questions. For the coraline algae I would use a straight razor and go at it. It is going to take some time and probably a few razors depending on how much you have. Just go slow so you don't scratch your tank.

The gunk in the overflow I would get a magic eraser and get some hot water and add vinegar and scrub away. I am not to sure I would use a power washer I would be to scared it would brake a seal. I think with a little time and elbow grease you will be able to clean it up just fine.

With the stand I had to sand mine down and re-stain it and I am so glad I did. I think in the long run you will be more happy if you re-stain. I dont think you will need a center brace on your stand, I had a 120 with no center brace on the stand. The paint I Know just about and hardware store sells a bathroom paint that is good for mold so you might want to look into that.

Hope that helped I am not an export by any means but that is what I have done and had good luck with. Happy reefing!
