Clickity click click

Shortly after setting up my tank, my husband and I heard clicking noises and thought something was going wrong with the electrical stuff on the tank. However, all equipment checked out fine, so now I'm wondering if I have a mantis. I hear clicks usually in the evening (all lights on) and my clean up crew is slowing dying off, but that may be due to lack of food.

Can I assume, by clicks alone, that I do, in fact have a mantis? If so, I wanna catch it now, before I add fish. Any suggestions on the EASIEST, fastest way to do this?

Thanks,
Laurie

You might have to see it first. Could be many reasons for clicking. Snails hitting glass, pistols. My red pistol is so loud it sounds like the glass cracking.

Do you have any hermits in there? They also can make a clicking sound when shell hit each other. I would have swore I had a mantis or pistol.

The same has happened to me. Larger hermits falling of the rock work and hitting the glass makes a rather loud click. But not in any repititious clicking. I did have a mantis in my tank and had to remove all the rock to get him out. But i never heard clicking from him though. I still have him in a seperate tank and I never here him make any noise.

I just caught mine the other day after searching for it for a few months. My girlfriend spotted it on one of the bigger rocks in the tank....of course:rolleyes: ..... She watched it while I yanked the rock and we sprayed the rock with SW (to save main life on the rock) while shooting FW into the hole it was in......I grabbed it with some tweezers and the mantis went into some shock I think, but he's ok now.

He's in a Kritter Keeper in the main tank, until I can get a bigger home for him.

2 days later, more clicking came from another part of the tank....ugh....and later found a pistol.....no wonder why my house sounded like a shooting gallery:) .

My pistol is nice ans quiet...but hes paired with a goby so that may be why... When fish start to dissapear, id go with the mantis theory. Check around the tank at night with a flashlight.
