Have clipperton angelfish ever been available to the aquarium trade before? The USFWS said on their Flickr page the command up to $7000 in the USA and $10,000 in Asia.

Also when did the Waikiki aquarium get them?

There is a huge thread on RC about a someone who collected them about 1-2 years ago and tried to pass them off as some other type of fish. They were confiscated and I can't remember what happened to them but you should be able to find the thread by doing a search.

The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach CA has one. I frequent the aquarium and make note to visit the exhibit the Clipperton is kept in, and people laugh at me when I point out they are looking at a $7,000+ fish; I guess they just don't believe me. The Wakiki Aquarium has a tremendous amount of rarities to it doesn't surprise me they have their share.

Just read the outcome of that long thread about the confiscated fish. The guy plead guilty, go 45 days in jail and a $2000 fine. I'm thinking with lawyer fees and damage to his reputation, it was a pretty expensive lesson.

According to one article, he could have received a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of $100,000 and another year of supervised release.

The one article speculated that he may not even served one day because of California's crowded prison system. I couldn't find a follow up article to see how many days that he actually served.

The specimen at Aquarium of the Pacific is the only one in the world in captivity left. The Waikiki Aquarium had theirs for years but lost it a few years ago...

The only question that still has not been answered is what happened to the fish?
