clogged reactor sponge (vodka dosing)

I both dose vodka and run a TLF gfo reactor because the vodka alone doesn't keep my PO4 low enough. Here's the thing: the reactor sponges become clogged in as little as a day or two with what seems to be bacterial growth.

Has anyone got a suggestion or knows of a a mod for the reactor?

I thought you supposed to dose vodka and increase in.05 amounts until it drops po4 and when you notice it dropping, stay with that dose until undetectable.

that is in a perfect world where the ration of N to PO4 is perfect for the bacteria to consume. However my system seems to be nitrate limited. Removing the GFO has not proved to be a good idea (yes I tried it)

Any other input?

I would do a mesh mod like they do with solid carbon dosing, I forget what name of the thread, something like EcoBak solid dosing. They are needle point round plastic disks
