......Closed loop on 450 gallon........

My goal is to take out my ridiculously large overflows and replace them with a beananimal c2c overflow. There are two 3.5 inch and two 2 inch pre-drilled holes on the bottom of the tank where my overflows are now and i was wondering what to do with them? Use all of them for returns or just the the large holes and use the little ones to take in water from the bottom? I have not a clue but i rather not have powerheads in the tank. I have a 120gal sump and hammerhead pump.

Thanks,
Chris

they wouldnt be a closed loop if the water comes from the overflow. what your doing is just sending the dirty water back to the tank without cleaning it. If you need the flow then just go over the top for the closed loop

What is that supposed to mean? I will have a protein skimmer rated for 1200 gallons and deep sand bed and live rock in both sump and tank. Somebody suggested that i use the holes on the bottom for a closed loop system.

a closed loop runs off its own pump. Usually one suction hole ( larger hole) and then as many returns as you want through the bottom or the back of the tank. So just a continuous loop. Your return pump would be seperate from the closed loop pump. ( so 2 pumps needed)

Would another hammerhead be over doing it? I will want to get a pump that i can use on a 800 gallon that i will be building.

Hammerhead would be fine. I use a pump similar to the hammerhead but it's pressure rated I use for my CL and have a 2" input and 2 1.5" outputs with 45 degree angles comming from the bottom of my tank. I had to throttle the flow because it pushes the water out of my 24" tall tank.
