closed loop pump

It all depends on the amount of water turnover you want in your tank. A minnimum would be 10 times, the more the better I say. In my 90 I have about 26 times and I would still like more. It all depends on th etype of corals you plan on keeping. For sps the mor the better in my opinion.

Your pump output is really going to depend on what you want out of your tank. Bare bottom/DSB? SPS/Softies/Fish only? How big of a tank? How big of a sump?

I have a closed loop on my 120. 4 x 2 x2.
I use a Ampmaster 3000 running through an Ocean Motion 4-Way.
Very nice setup.

Is garden hose flow enough to keep good flow at the bottom of the tank? I'm thinking about a dart or my current Iwaki 70rlt through 6 outlets. Would you go with the higher volume pump?

In order to answer some of your questions you need to be specific on what your looking to do with your tank.

What size?
Sand, crushed coral, bare bottom?
corals?
if so what kind?

On a closed loop, my suggestion is to go with as much flow as your tank will allow. Since it doesn't flow through a sump you dont have to worry about your overflows. we have a 180 with a sequence dart for our returns and one for our closed loop. 3600 gph each.

I am looking at 6 outputs. the tank will include alittle bit of everything. It is a 125 gallon with a 5 inch DSB. I am looking at the sequence dart. is that a good pump?

the dart is a nice pump. Are you drilling for the CL or are you going to go over the top? If you're going to drill, Look into Rod's Reef (user name Rod Buehler) He'll do it at his shop in DeKalb for a reasonable price.

I've had decent luck with my dolphin am3k and I hear good things about the dart. You need to decide how much flow you are looking for.

My tank didn't have enough flow, so I'm upgrading to a hammerhead and a marlin on penductors. But then again, my tank is twice the size. So probably a dart or am3k would be great.

I'd recommend a sequence tiger shark driving an array of 10 penductors... :-P

LOL tiger shark 300-500 gal tank 5100gph 84' max head

10 penductors = @ 30 times the flow
