Hi all! thanks for all the help.

I am a beginner, have 75 gallon with live rock and fish. am making 180 gallon.

I notice people mention a closed loop system.

what is that, and why do people use it?

Thanks!!

Bob

A close loop is a set up for water movement. you drill holes in your tank that fead an external pump. Then the water is fed back into the tank. It is called a closed loop because the water is not exposed to the air (like a sump or overflow box). Most systems that are close loop have the hole that feds the pump and then 4 to 8 holes that return to the tank by the use of an Oceans Motions 4way or 8way. Check out www.oceansmotions.com Paul is great to work with. Check out this thread and you will understand. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1335781
Good luck

Alot of people will also point you towards Tunzes. Ff you look at a large return pump, like a Dart Hammerhead. You get under 6000 gph. Two Tunze 6101s get more flow, and use probably 1/4 the electricity (Id have to check).

I initially was going to go CLS also, but was talked out of it. Check with Invincible569, he was CLS, then went Tunzes. He talked me out of going CLS....

If you just want two tunze 6101s, you can get them and a controller for around $700 or so. If you want a Hammerhead and a OM 4way, you will be around $700 also anyhow. Look for some used Tunzes, and you will be happy I think.

Tunze all the way! I will be going with this on my next setup 60x30x24. I fear from the bigger chance of leaks and elec from pumps for CL..
