Could I safely cap off the holes in a reef ready tank? If so how? It is a reef ready tank that I would be using for freshwater. So, I don't really need, want a sump for it. If anyone has links to what I would need it would be appreciated.
Maybe you could consider offering it up for trade. Someone might be interested in swaping out a Non RR for your RR and then you wouldn't have to worry about it leaking or detritus/gunk stagnating where the overflow is.
well it is a large tank (7 ft long) I would be getting used. It would be great to trade but, I don't think that option will be open to me. I have an extra 75 gallon if it fits under the stand I guess I could plumb a sump and return. With it being freshwater I assume micro bubbles wouldnt be as much as a problem. I could prolly get away without putting in baffles.
If you could setup a wet/dry they work great in freshwater...I would think it would greatly increase the amount of O2 in the tank...could be wrong. You could buy bulkheads and just cap them. I would think that would be the easiest safest thing to do.

Countzer0, that sounds easy enough to do. Yah, teflon tape has done me well. Chris though you have me thinking I might as well make use of the overflows. A little do it yourself work with a spare tank, bioballs, eggcrate, acryllic, and some cut to fit glass would leave me a nice big cheap wet/dry.
The fish are in the 75 gallon right now. To have the time to mod it into a wet/dry would take time leaving the fish no home. Do you think if I modded my spare 40 gallon (36x12x18) it would hold the extra water in case of powerloss?
Rc has a overflow calculater and I think it was a 55 for that tank. I have access to a 30 gallon long if you need it to house them for a week or so to get the mod made. My 80 was set up as FW with overflows when I bought it and has the wet/dry sump. It worked real well to add the water in and easy acess to the filer pads.
