Cloudy Water and high Ammonia

Hi all. I am having a horrible problem since I added my live rock to the aquarium to help cycle it. The ammonia sky rocketed and the tank became really cloudy. So cloudy that you can't see the rock. It has been this way for about a week.

I also can't keep the PH at 8.2. It is staying really low also. I add the PH adjusting powders and it brings it up for one day and then it drops again.

I did a 50 percent waterchange and it did nothing to help. The ammonia levels stayed the same and it became even more cloudy.

How do I correct this?

I would at least like to see the rock I purchased. HA HA.

from what i have read i would say these rocks are homemade and have not fully cured.. They change ph, cloud water, and leave a nasty film on top of water.

Amonia is normal and part of the cycling process. Nothing to worry about, just give it time. Do you have any mechanical filtration? If not see if you can get a cheap HOB filter which should help you with the cloudiness.

I have a fluval canister filter running now. I took out the sponges and replaced them with fiber filter. Not doing to good of a job. Time may be my only option.

I also forgot to say that the nitrite and nitrate levels are zero. Only showing the high high high ammonia.

The high ammonia should subside in few days and you should start seeing nitrites. Just be patientââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦
