Cloudy water

Any advice on how to get rid of milky water after improperly rinsed bag of carbon. Does it go away all by itself?

So it should go away all by itself after all. I did strain the bag for couple good minutes, and cloudiness is still there couple days after I added carbon.

This only proves that my cloudy water is for some other reason. I dont have any live inhabitants yet. Just recently, after adding 2 raw shrimps ammonia levels started to rise. What could this cloudy water be? Water was RO/DI and was perfectly clear for couple days. Could water get cloudy from live rock?

Please help.

Clueless.

Hi Lucas,

The cloudy water would be a bacterial bloom in the water. The raw shrimp rotting in the tank is jump-starting your cycle and allowing the nitrifying bacteria to multiply extremely fast. The cloudiness will slowly go away as the bacteria recolonizes in the live rock and colonizes in the substrate. Don't panic...and, IMO, don't do water changes while the tank is cycling.

BTW... don't let the raw shrimp rot in there too long. It's best to replace it after a few days with a fresh raw shrimp. Otherwise, it'll turn into a pile of decaying mush ;)
