I finally added water to my tank and was too impatient in doing so. Now my tank is extremely cloudy since the sand that was in my atnk was new, and the residue seems to be staying suspended. How do i clear this up?
that is usually what happens when ever i or anyone else i know first fills there tanks. Ive tried my hardest not to make a mess and it always happens since i use sugar sized sand. your just gonna have to give it a few days or so to settle on its own. mine usually settles with a day but ive heard of others taking longer. not much you can do besides run a filter with some floss, as long as its small particles that will help. most people just let it settle on its own though.
one tip i can give you if you didnt already know for the next time you fill a tank which helps but im always in a hurry and make a mess anyways but you can put a bucket or something in the tank and when you pour the water in your tank just pour it over the bucket in the tank so it wont hit the sand bed. some use a dinner plate or something like that and that will help to but i like to use a small bucket or what ever i can get in the tank so that that water splashes in the bucket instead of all over the sand.
Yea i know the trick and usually do it, but i have been waiting on this tank forever and i got ahead of myself, the anticipation has been brutal, haha. Looks like i will be playing the waiting game
I ended up dumping some of my sand in after it was full on my last tank and it was a mess but it was cleared up within 24 hours or so with the filter running. I hate to see an empty tank so i always get in a rush when it comes to getting the sand and water in. to me it feals like somethings getting done when you can look at a tank with sand and water lol. anyways good luck with your tank.
Trust me I feel your pain, this tank has been an on going project for almost 2 months now, and i have been extremely patient buying it piece by piece getting everything i wanted. Now that I have it done I just wanna throw stuff in it, haha.
If you have a HOB filter or some way to run carbon that will help. I always rince my sand very very well with the hose first in a big rubbermaid tub. Lots of nasty foamy junk washes out. Lots of people say to leave the super fine sediment for the benifit of a DSB but I always hated the fine silt it leaves all over everything as it settles out also. When the sand gets waited down with some bacteria is when you will see the tank get the clearest. Depending on the sand used and how much rock and old water you used to kick start the bacteria it may take awhile to clear. If its all fresh SW give it a while before you add the corals from your nano over. The parameters will be very different and can kill off lots of things....Been there done that....
Yea its going to be awhile before I add any corals, I did have some sand in the tub I am holding my rocks in which I am going to add to hopefully speed up the process. The water is already much more clear today by the way.
