Clown/ Anemones

I was thinking of getting a RBTA and a mated pair of B class Picassos. My question is would the anemone cause any problems in a reef tank? Are the incompatable with any kind of coral?

Rbtas will sting whatever corals they touch. They might wander a bit until they find a live rock that has a cave or crevice where they can attach their foot permanently. Although perculas are not a natural symbiont for Rbtas, in the captivity it frequently happens that they take up together.

Any suggestions on a diferent anemone?

Actually, I would say an RBTA would be the best choice of the host anemones.

+1. They also readily clone in captivity so if you are new to keeping anemones - help conserve and purchase a captive raised anemone like a rbta. Your chances of success increase also since it is already used to living in a glass cage.

I would not use an RBTA. They are famous for roaming tanks, to include inside power heads, and I have seen percs lose black while being hosted by BTA's.....

+1 on RBTA being a good choice in a mixed reef. There is no "reef safe" nems, but I find it easy to plan my tank around where the nem happens to be. Just make sure you keep it happy with good flow/lighting/food and it should settle down. My current one is hiding under a rock and I am waiting for the day it decides to go on the move again lol.

Sorry but anemones all walk - so your argument against it makes no sense unless you are telling the op to get a plastic anemone from petco.

As for coloration - can you show pics on this? I have never heard that before. If you look at the sticky at the top of this forum, you will see a prime example of someone (20 plus clowns in a 180 tank with over a dozen btas) who is successful with this combo (rbta/gbta and true perc).

Thanks for all the info guys/ gals I have seen some pics where a clown host was frog spawn does this happen often?

Yes pretty common I'd say. My percula moves from my Hammer coral to my Frogspawn whenever my nem is too "closed up" after lights out.

They probably will not unless they are wild-caught and picassos are not wild since they are specialties by captive breeding. IME if the anemone is 8" or bigger you can just place it in a nice, deep hole in the rocks and it will stay but only if the hole blocks the foot from any water movement and the hole has a bottom... so I'd say about a 1.5" deep by 1.5" across would do it as long as the anemone fits snuggly in there. RBTA will move around the tank if the water quality is bad, the lighting is too much/too little, or it's not getting enough food. How big is your tank? How many corals do you have in it? Can you post a picture of your tank? Also, it doesn't have to be an RBTA. An RBTA is the same as a BTA but it just has a different color pigment. I'm not sure why there is such a huge price difference, but I'm finding that within the last year or so that BTA are harder to find than RBTA. If you don't live near a store that has anemone, I know a great website that sells cheap, healthy, beautiful BTA! :D

I havent got my tank set up yet. I just got the water in it and in a couple of weeks will be ordering the "package" from TBS. It is a 28gal jbj quad nano. I am asking now so I can figure out what I can and can't have in the tank. I really like the Picasso clowns and would like 2 get a pair with a nem but I like corals better and will get different fish if the nem/clowns won't work with the corals.

Thanks for the info
