Clown fish acting wierd...

I just bought two True Perc Clowns yesterday. They seemed fine all day and ate well.

Today I woke up and took a peek at them while it was still morning. One was sitting down in the said and was sleeping I assume. I couldn't locate the other one"¦ I didn't see it swimming where it was at the day before, and I didn't see it lying in the sand bed anywhere. I opened the canopy and it was swimming sideways VERY close to the surface of the water where the return pipe from my sump came up. It honestly looked like it was trying to swim with its reflection in the top of the water.

I remember reading a similar story of someone with the same issue and they were worried about their fish. They were told that this is just one of the weird things clowns will do in a tank. So, I'm kind of hoping this is the case and that the clown is just being weird.

However, in most cases, a fish swimming sideways at the top of the tank is usually a bad thing"¦ I just wanted to double check and see if anyone has had experience with something like this so I can stop worrying (currently I'm at work and unable to view the tank when the lights came up in the morning and unable to see them for another 8 hrs :worried:)

hmmm clowns dont really sleep on the sand bed, nor should the flow allow them to be stationary on the sand bed !

most likely low Oxygen in water or ammonia spike, is the tank new ?

My tank is close to 3 months old, but these are the first fish we’ve added. We started cycling, and then found out we were moving. So after about 1.5 months we moved to a new place. Been in the new place close to a month now and all my levels are stable. As of about 5pm yesterday, my Ammonia levels were 0. If it was low oxygen wouldn’t both fish be at the top and not one of the bottom and one on the top? And they were swimming around all day in the middle of the tank. The place where the fish was at in the sand bad is in a corner behind a rock so flow probably wasn’t getting back there too well. It was also where my Conch snail was at yesterday. My conch dug in the sand over in that corner and his shell was there from about 3pm till the last time I checked (9pm last night).

I had someone check on them while I’m stuck here at work… and they are swimming around just fine now… lol wth.

My clowns are goofy like this too. The female B&W she will hang out next the mag cleaner (which I park next to the overflow box) vertical head down at night. My Black Ice will sleep next to the overflow/return line wedging himself on his side. But its their nightly routine, next to eachother in their strange sleeping positions.
