Clown fish breeding and raising

I posted in the wrong forum before. I hope this finds the correct audience..

I had a few questions as to how to breed my black and white clownfish. i was planning on putting them into my refugium untill they mated then once the eggs hatch i was going to put the mother and father back into the main tank. now im not sure exactly how to breed them and if there are any tips or pointers you guys can give me. also, i am setting up a 50 gallon tank for a friend and i was going to put all the babies once matured a little into that aquarium. once the babies get older will they start to bother eachother or get aggressive with each other if I leave that many of them together?

How old are the clowns. I am new also to breeding clowns and have learned a lot through trial and error. Most breeders either remove the eggs to a small hatching/rearing tank or remove the fry once hatched to a rearing tank. I remove the fry since my pair do not want to lay their eggs on tile pieces that I have in the tank. You also have to have a rotifer culture started too. Do not want to get to involved here but if you do your research you will succede. Also by removing your pair after they lay their eggs it could interupt their breeding cycle, so it is best to have your pair where you want them without causing them any stress once they are breeding. Good luck and do not get discouraged if things do not go well at first. Learn from the mistakes and make any changes that will help insure your survival rate of your fry. A lot of info on this sight, again do the reasearch.

Thank you. I have been watching a lot of videos on it on youtube and searching the web on this subject. my main concern is that if they lay the eggs in the tank that another fish will come by and eat them before they even have a chance. Im not sure how old these 2 are that i have but i have had them for almost a year. they have grown a lot in that time and I think they are getting close to the right age.

If they have not layed eggs yet you might want to put them in their own tank. If that is not an option for you the parents will defend their eggs. To help condition your clowns feed them at least 3 times a day with various foods. I feed mine flake, Spectrum A, Rods Reef food even cyclops. I purchased my clowns as a mated pair. My female is at least three inches and male two inches long, and when I got them it took eight months for them to settle in. Thats why I ask if they have not started laying eggs to consider their own tank, try to make it easy for yourself.

If there are aggressive fish in your main tank there is a chance you will never get eggs from your pair even if they do mate up, they won't lay eggs unless they feel like there is a chance of them surviving, mine wouldn't lay eggs until i put them into a 12G biocube, they started laying eggs 6 months after I isolated them in their own tank, I keep a terracotta pot in there for them to lay their eggs on, they lay every 18 days without fail

My clownfish just started spawning in a 120g with 2 tangs, flame angel, anthias and a school of chromas. Get them settled where you want to keep them, don't add any new fish, feed 2 or 3 times a day, and try not to disturb the tank any -if you have had them about 18 months they should start soon. Be patient! Also you can learn everything you need to know about raising the fry by reading the thread in this forum titled 'my black occularis pair are spawning' it will take a while with 50+ pages. But it is well worth the read.
