Clown fish disease or wound I.D.

Clown has had this bump below his lip for a lil over a week. It's brownish black in color. Eating, swimming normal, and socializing with the my other clown and flame angel. I'm thinking it came from hitting one of the rocks in the night. Unless it's a type of infection, do I need to QT and medicate? Thanks in advance.

Hard to tell from the blurry pic. A fish's immune system can usually fight off minor infections on it's own. Soaking your fish food in vitamin supplements and stepping up your WCs can help. But if it starts looking worse & worse, your only option may be to QT and administer antibiotics.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try to post a better pic. It looked like a round scab but yesterday it started to look like a wart. I think i'm going to QT him. Which antibiotics are commonly used? This is my first salt tank. I've medicated my fresh water fish before with mela or pimafix with success in the past.

If you think it's possibly a bacterial infection and wish to QT, I would use Furan-2.

It's cheap, broad spectrum, readily available and although sometimes harsh, a clownfish should be able to handle it.

Use a gram negative antibiotic in qt soon, that lesion looks pretty nasty. I use maracyn-2 but any appropriate antibiotic should work.

Clown lost the battle yesterday. The lesion got worse even with antibiotics, took over his whole lower lip.
