Clown ID Experts - Differentiating Melanopus and Frenatus

Hi All,

I have two large single clowns (females - 4+" each). One I got as a tomato the other as a cinnamon. I will get pics of both up tomorrow but wanted to at least get the post up and description.

Big question is:

Do melanopus clowns always have solid black pectoral fins? Both of these clowns have a dark front edge (black) while the rest is a dark red color. Both clowns are uniformly dark red over their entire body and the lower fins behind the pectoral fins are dark red as well. I am thinking they are both frenatus but would like some more opinions since I am planning on pairing them both.

Pics tomorrow of each (lights are off right now).

Thanks!

Sounds to me like they are both frenatus.

Melanopus almost always have a black blanket on their back and sides and their tail is a different color tone than their body. Usually more yellow than the body color.

I'll snap a few pics tomorrow but I agree I am almost positive both are frenatus. No big deal just want to make sure their mates are the same as them :) I am not interested in hybrids.
