Clown pair... big one first or??

I have an 8g nano and plan on adding 2 Clowns... (by the time they outgrow 8g.. I'm sure I'll have a new tank)...

My plan is to get them really small.. But I've read that I should get one bigger than the other to make a pair...

I figure there will be a few weeks in between adding the first and the 2nd...

Should I get the bigger one first? Or the smaller one?

i would highly suggest waiting on the new tank 1st those clowns will out grow that tank in a couple months and actually it is already 2 much for a 8 gal. to start with

You think 2 inches of fish is too much right from the get go?

2" no, but it won't take long for them to grow to the point of to big for the tank. I would just stick to inverts and mayby a clown goby or such and wait for the upgrade. you would be surprised on how many times upgrades get pushed back because of other things.

I think your tank is a fine size for clowns. I have adult pairs in chambers from 6 gal to 10 depending on their size. If you stick with a occy or perc types you'll be fine.

So.. back to the original question...

If I'm going to have a week or 2 between adding fish... should I get the bigger one first... or does it matter?

I would either get two of exactly the same size (small, so they still are juveniles), and add them at the same time, or I'd buy a slightly larger one, and put in it first. Then add the smaller one second.

Make sure to keep up on your water changes and water top off's in a tank that small.

I would wait the 2 weeks and get them at the same time. Lfs normally would stock the clowns all in one tank. Pick out the biggest one from the school and a significantly smaller one. This way you would know they will get along with each other.
