My son sent me this to post here any help would be appreciated.
"I have two False Perc clownfish, both were introduced to my tank at the same time and have gotten along fairly well until recently. I think they have decided which is going to be the male and which is the female, the one who has become slightly larger has picked on the smaller one a little bit nothing bad though. From my understanding this is all normal. The other day I noticed I only had one clown in my tank and found the smaller clown had jumped the wall, for unknown reasons, and was laying on top of the filter floss halfway under water. He could have been out of the main tank for up to 18 hours or as short as a couple minutes I did not look into my tank close enough for about 18 hours to notice one fish was missing. I carefully put him back into the main tank and he was acting normal. Now two days later his tail looks like it has been halfway eaten by something. My question is do fish recognize specific fish even if they were separated for a short period of time? Or is since he jumped out and was then put back in the tank do the other fish in the tank not recognize that it is the same fish so now he is considered a new comer and lost his domain in the tank? The only other fish I have that would nip at him is the other clown and an Cherub Angelfish and I have not seen either of them attack him in any way since putting him back in the tank."
