my fiance whants to know why all clowns start off as male and how one becomes the female. i dont have all the answers for her.

they actually all start out asexual, or non-sexed. As they mature, the most dominant one will switch to a female and the next will switch to a male. Any remaining ones will remain unsexed. If the female dies, the male will most likely become female and the next unsexed juvie will become female. If the male dies, the next juvie will just become the new male and the female will stay the same. They say that once they become female, they can't change back, but they can go from juvie to male to female or juvie to female. Just the way evolution set it up!
