clown shimmy

I have a pair of clowns. tonight I noticed them scooting along "their" rock and shaking. it looked like they were having a spasm. Any idea what they are doing?

It is a submissive dance. The pair is going through a dominance stage that will in turn sex them. The more aggressive one will become a female while the submissive clown will become a male. Its very normal to see. Nothing to worry about.

yeah they seem to already be a male and female. ones bigger then the other for sure. I have seen what I believe to be Him do it before randomly but never seen her to it. or them do it together.. like next to each other at the same time. At first i thought it was cause I just added my first new fish to the tank since them.

Mine do this with each other regularly. They've been together almost a year now - I thought it was a mating ritual dance as well.

They also doing other (what I've read) was other mating rituals such as nipping at the rocks by one of their bedding areas but I've never seen them spawn or found eggs.

From where did you read this from? My clownfish do the exact same thing for the past week. And I'd like to know more about this. I have seen them "cleaning" that certain spot next to their anemone.

By the way, aquareeferman, thank you so much for this info even though this isn't even my thread. I have been wondering for so long why my pair has been doing this, and this reason seems most likely. How long does this dominance sex-change take? Mine have been doing it very vigourously for the past two days since I moved a rock covering where they were cleaning.
