I added a Clown Tang to my tank today after carefully picking him out (he's a very healthy looking specimen) and he has swam constantly since except to pick at some algae from time to time. He's really fast and hasn't really explored the tank yet, he just swims around the front mosly in circles.

IS THIS BEHAVIOR NORMAL?

I've gotten the impression that this a fish that like to swim a bit more than average but my partner is worried that this is not normal. can anyone help shed light on this is share experiences. Thanks

You did not add him to your 32 in your signature did you? If you did you obviously did zero research on Tangs. Don't plan on keeping him very long.

What size tank?
How long did you acclimate?
What are the tank parameters?
Is there a lot of rock interfering with the swimming from one end to the other?
How long was he at the store? Did he just come in or has he been there for a while?
How many other fish are in the tank? Of that how many are tangs?

This fish needs to be in a very large tank. It is extremely aggressive and very difficult to keep. Basically one of those best kept in the wild species.
