My husband purchased one of these this weekend not knowing what he was doing and now I need information on them...suitable tank mates? Clean up crew they will not kill, stories and pictures fomr people who have one of these beautiful fish!
I havea large one about 7" or so. Mine is very docile. I have a crew of large hermits for cleanup. However, some have fallen as casualties. They are hit an miss though. I've seen some that are pure terrors.
It will likely be a relatively short time before you need to either get rid of the clown trigger or lose all the other fish (and anything else that moves). I've seen many "docile" clown triggers turn into killing machines literally overnight.
A 55g is also WAY too small for a sailfin.
On the plus side, your husband just essentially gave you permission to upgrade to a much larger tank.
I would have to agree with them.. A 55g is way to small for a clown.. I have a 7 to 8 inch one and he can be very mean!! But I also can pick him up out of the water if I wanted to..(I don't but you get the pic)lol
I have one that is around 4.5" in a 90 but definetly need to move him in the upcoming months to a bigger tank, mine seems peaceful now with other tankmates but like stated above its more hit and miss than anything and bigger tanks seem to allow them breathing room and less aggression IME
Oh the clowns. As stated I have watched both a very calm one and then the devil himself in a 180 by himself. Nothing could go in that tank, you hand would hurt also. Gotta love em.
