hello my clown trigger has had ich for more than a week now, he still eats like a pig and swims as if he had nothing, my question is should i let him fight off the ich by himself and develope an immunity to it like my piccasso trgger has, or should i put them both into a hospital tank..and can eels catch ich? thanks for the help

stefano

Yes, you should treat them.
And you should also be prepared to move that clown trigger to a larger tank before he decides to kill the eel and picasso.

Fish don't get immunity from Ich. They do increase their ability to fight it off, but they still get Ich it just doesn't get large enough to be noticeable. This is how Ich can still proliferate in a tank thats already survived a bout of it. I hope I'm reading this wrong, but it looks like you have a Humu and Clown Trigger in a 24 gallon? Thats just nuts and would explain how ich is taking root in what would be healthy and are generally hardy fish.

I had Triggers eat to the last day before they die.
You should treat the triggers ASAP... they tolerate copper very easily .... I never had any eels so i can not say.

yea i havent updated that ever since i aquired the account, there in a 90 gallon tank right now until i can afford to get a bigger tank, so no need to freak out prime311.....wow some people amaze me, thank you very much for the other information, i will be sure to put him into a hospital tank come tomarow

Coppersafe or Copper Power and 4 days later it will be spotless! But go the full 30 days though, and make sure you watch for ammonia and nitrite spikes as well as ph issues.

That's still nowhere near big enough, and there's a good chance you'll run into trouble before you can get a tank large enough to avoid it.

Try Chem Marin...All natural and it wont harm anything in the tank.

Plus you can call the guy who created it and he will walk through the process.

Most fish stores have. DrsFosterandsmith does too..

I have used it with incredible results and because there is no copper in it it will not stress out anything in your tank...

Sorry to tell you nothing else work as good as Hypo or copper with formalin .
No one come up with anything that i know of yet to work as good .
I have use many of the so call "natural" and reef safe Ich killers nothing works for me so far.

Hypo with Chem Marin worked wonders for me..and did not bother my fish, including my puffers.

Copper, while very effective, will also kill and/or stress out many fish, including puffers very quickly, even when levels are closely monitored.

I can not say about puffers ..but i never have any fatalities with Coppersafe with any other fish , i use a photometer to keep levels constant and in the safe range.

Puffers are very affected by copper and other medications. So copper should never be used with puffers. Triggers and Angelfish do ok with copper but I have had Angels such as a juv Passer and Cortez stress out during a copper cycle.

Many have a problem with the cheap color compared copper test kits, that is always the problem you can not get accurate reading from them .
I'm fortunate to have a LFS that i use for two decades now with one of the best meters out there "Hanna C 200 Complete Water Quality Analysis Photometer. HI 83200" and i can use it as often i like to but cost me some frags here and there :D but i know he use it in his quarantine tanks, he always have fish with ich and it is not often he say that he ever loose a fish to copper poisoning .
But if Hypo with Chem Marin work for you hey that is your thing to do .
I don't even try any more to use any of the so call reef safe ich killing.... snake oils.
Enjoy.

Copper will kill corals, inverts and the biological life in your live rock. It will stay dormant inside your substrate, live rock and even the silicon that holds your tank together and will slowly leach into the water. Chemi-pure plus will help remove it from the tank.

Just sayin' be careful with copper, how much you add and be sure to check the levels.

I just would rather avoid the possible headaches that copper may cause in my tanks.

To me, the negatives outway the positives and I stay away from copper...

It is a wondeful machine...they just came out with an even better version in 2008.

I own one and recommend them highly even though they are quite expensive- they can save you a lot of aggravation.

They run between $700-$800....I've heard the 2008 model is closer to $900.

sorry Zoom...I meant to quote you but got distracted by dinner...

Anyway, what ever works for us is good!

No problem humaguy... i never use anything in my reef tanks anyway.
I treat everything in a large quarantine tank for six to ten weeks .
Here is a new Clown trigger in my 200G reef tank .
He was quarantine for five weeks with copper and moved to a 100G reef tank to see /check if he was coral / fish safe for ten weeks i now have him in the reef tank for over two months.
Here is some old tangs with him a 15 years old yellow and 9 years old purple .
