Clown ?

The guy at the LFS said not to mix different kinds of clown's . I have been checking out all the great pictures of the reefs on here and have seen many tanks with different kinds of clowns . Is mixing clowns a big problem or hit and miss ?

You can mix perculas all you want. There will be some bickering and probably no death. On the other end cinnamon and maroon clowns will go out of their way to kill other clowns. It also helps to set up a large terratory if you want to keep different species. I would say 24" per clown pair.

try to match the sizes as well. Your best bet is getting them all when they are young. Once they get older they get more territorial.

Well I just put a Sebea clown in my tank about a month ago with a tomato clown that has been in the tank for about a year and half. The tomato did a little of, I'm the boss type of pushing, but the Sebea held it's own and they now get along fine.

really depends on the species you hope to mix, but in general different species will not tolerate each other, particularly if they're in pairs or hosting an anemone.

maroon clowns are one of the meanest fish i have ever encountered. one of these guys was less than 2 inches in length and was bullying a angel 3x its size. percula's fine, ocellaris fine, tomato's are little mean. maroons are viscious

I guess I need to figure out what kind I have now . I dont rember what they said when I bought it . I know it's a tank raised clown but don't rember the kind . It's a big sissy Its even scared to go in the rocks so I know it wont host in anything LOL .

i had 2 false perc and 2 pink skunks the false perc female killed 1 and terrorized the other till i got it out.

I saved a tank that had 1 false perc and a sadle back they are still in the same tank a 29 and get along just fine.

how about a false clown & a black & white????

have the false now in a biocube 8....building a ~60gal (30x18x26 internally) & they both would be added to new tank at the same time

I have mixed clowns before and although some times there is a territory issue it seems to be fine after a while. I would not recommend mixing clowns in a small system. i would say 75+ and never mix a tomato or maroon with other types. especially if female. female clowns are the most aggressive and more so if paired with a male.

james3370 Im positive that a false and a B/W would be fine. I have 2 med size false perc and large black and white Ocel and they get all get along just fine. Try and have more than 1 anem in there tho
