clowndude 65 gallon sps tank

As promised here are some updated pictures. Note the Black AI Sols are hung over the tank. I'm so excited to have the Black AI Sols as I think they go with the tank better than the white AI Sols would have. I wanted to say thank you to my LFS Elegant Reef for getting these lights in for me. I was quite surprised when the owner called me saying he could get a pair of them for you. Naturally I jumped all over this deal.

Looking good. Are you going to put more rock in or that is all?

Lol, I do need more rock for sure as its to bare for my liking. I've been on the look out for some good liverock. I am leaning towards getting some of that real reef rock, but not sure how good or safe it is for a fish tank. Does anybody have experience with this rock?

Greetings-

It is has been quite some time since I updated my thread here on Reefcentral, but don't worry there hasn't been a lack of progress going on with the tank.

Here are some updated pictures of the tank and one of my new favorite tank mates

The anthias is starting to eat anything I put in the water which is a really good sign. He/She pretty much stays out all day long now when the lights are on. I'm pretty much done buying fish. I have maybe 3 small fish at the max still left that I want, but that might be sometime now before I get them.

As far as equipment on the tank I have most everything purchase, but a bubble magus dosing pump, two mp10s and I'm considering going with 1-Lumen Bright MH Pendant with a 400 watt Radium 20K bulb. I like some of the effects the LEDs can do, but my reds and pink just look awful in the tank. Even my wife has noticed that the colors just don't seem to have that 'POP' as they do with T5's and MH.

Here are some coral pictures. Sorry the coral look really blue. Haven't figured out good light settings for taking pictures.

Nice work so far. Great looking borbonius anthia. As far as going with MH I am contemplating doing the same on my rebuild.I think I will use LED only as a supplement light.

Thanks Mark, he is def one of my favorites now. I ordered my lumen bright 400 watt mh with a 20k radium today. Should hopefully be in Friday. I'll post up pics when it comes in and post my findings with the color on the coral. I'm hoping to get a deep rich looking color from the Sps.

Swapping out the two led fixtures for the one mh. I want to figure out a way to add moonlights though as I like that effect at night.

Here are some updated pictures of my tank. I changed the LEDs out for a 400 watt 20k radium which sits in a lumen bright pendant. So far I've been really happy with the growth and color of the coral. I also just received my vortech mp10s. I am running two on the right side of the tank and one on the left. Im considering buying one more.

Um...where'd all the fish go? Also, not to knit-pick, but that seems like an warrior lot of wasted light...is there no way to get more of it in the tank and less on the walls? Other than that I love this progression thread, its a great looking tank.

All fish are in QT tank right now being treated right now with copper. I had a fish bring in ick into the tank so I had no choice. As far as the light there is an exclusive amount of light spill over, but not really sure how to correct it. Been thinking of going down to a 250 watt metal halide which should let me run it lower and thus less spill over.

Those fixtures have some serious spread and penetration.

I see that...its rather epic spread...seems like you could easily light a 3x3 foot square tank with just one...but I don't know how much par drop off you might have.

Glad to hear that the fish are "ok" and just being treated. I was worried you got rid of them.

Kind of wondering that myself. With all the good things you hear about the AI's and the Ecotechs, I never heard of someone switching away from them...
