Clownfish and Frogspawn

From what I understand and seen, Frogspawn will host clownfish. My queston is, what size frogspawn should I get? Will it matter? I've been told that clownfish will actually end up damaging the coral? Is this true? or will getting a larger one a better way of preventing this?
Thanks. Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated!! :)

I don't mean to come down on you at all, but did you search for this at all? This topic about an LPS hosting clowns is asked at least once a week. Here's the very abbreviated version of some very long posts:

Yes, a clownfish can be hosted by frogspawn, hammer, torch.
They will also select almost anything in the tank as a host (mushrooms, powerheads, clams, zoas, elegance, etc).
You can't control what they decide to call their home.
Yes, it is quite likely that clowns being hosted by LPS will end up damaging it - sometimes fatally.
There's no sure way to figure out what each pair will decide to call home. Get a frogspawn if you like the coral, but don't consider it A) a sure-fire place that a clown will call home, or B) a good option for a host.

That should get you started. Search the forum and you'll be able to find much longer, in-depth answers.

Yes actually I do know all of that info. I have searched, maybe I should have read 30 threads instead of 8..sorry. I guess I was just looking for some experiences from others who have had their clowns with their frogspawns, ya know? I was more curious if a bigger one would be better to get to attempt it. Like you said they may not like it, or decide that my toadstool is more interesting. I guess I should have been more detailed with my 1st post...sorry for that.
SO...I am wondering if getting a very large frogspawn would be better for the frogspawn IF it decides to host the clowns or would it not matter.
(maybe I should've posted in New to Hobby...sorry)

No worries, sorry I jumped down your throat. IMO, you'd have a slightly higher chance at survival if you had a larger frogspawn and the clowns decided to be hosted by it (more coral to go around). BUT, that still assumes they end up in it.

Thanks for your feedback!
Theres a very large frogspawn at LFS. I was thinking of asking them to put it in a tank with 2 clowns and nothing else in hopes that they will choose one another. That way when I bring the 3 home, I may have a better chance in my DT. I don't know. They might choose something else anyways. lol
But again, thanks!

My B&W o. clown has always hosted my frogspawn, even when there were 4-5 BTA's in the tank and my orange clown was hosting one of them...

I can't say that he is damaging the frogspawn, but it grows rather slowly. On the flip side, the clown regularly has sting marks from the frogspawn.

here's a few pictures of my ocellaris in my frogspawn !!
the coral is closing up for night time but they are still playing in it.
it's under actinics since i was reading this post and figured i would take
a couple pics for you !!
it's a medium size coral and the fish are still small
i had a cool little video but i don't hink i can post a vid !!

i would have prefered they didn't make it their home !! it's cool and all
but the fact it could damage it does worry me but the clowns are diving in
it like kids in a room full of colored balls:hmm4:

in my past experience i've always had good luck (kept it years) before i hade to leave the hobby.the long tentacle (corkscreew)anemone, hardy, nice colour
nice size and they don't have the tendency to move as much once settled..

The only reason I was thinking of a frogspawn is because I use to own a LTA. After a year he was sooooo big..it was insane. I have a 55g, reg dimensions. He could expand himself to be as tall as the tank, and as wide as almost a 1/3 of my left side of the tank. HUGE! He ended owning my left side, which didn't leave me any room for the corals I had over there so things were crowded in rest of tank. My clowns loved it I'm sure...
I wouldn't mind getting another anemone, but, they all seem to get really big, and with a 55g I just don't have the room to house them. I know frogspawns get big, but the way my tank is set up now, I have a spot he can have in the middle left of my tank, and it can be all his :)
Now with more research and thought behind it, I am only going to get the frogspawn and not the Clowns. When I finally get to upgrade, I will look to add them.
Thanks again everyone for you feedback! Its much appreciated! :bounce3:

Edit: forgot to mention I lost the LTA and rest of tank to a sad, sad crash :(
