Clownfish and frogspawn

After 2 years in my tank a clownfish has decided to host in my frogspawn. It's in there really slashing around and the coral doesn't seem to extend out as much as usual now. Is this trouble for the coral?

My clowns host in several corals... does not seem to have any long temp impact on the corals.

I had this happen with my clowns and after I got rid of the clowns the damsels started doing it (got rid of them too). It doesn't harm the coral but just ****es it off so they stay closed. You can try adding an anemone to the tank and hopefully the clowns will move onto that and leave the frogspawn alone.

I've seen frogspawns that get used to it, and open up fully once they've become accustomed to the clown's presence

depends on the individual coral, some dont seem to mind, others do. If the coral isnt opening as much, try moving the coral to a different location and see if the clownfish will leave it alone. If it keeps staying closed like that it will eventually wither away.

sloshes, have both the clown and the frogspawn been in the tank for 2 years??

I'm setting up a new LPS dominated 75g tank and was planning on a clownfish-free setup because of the hosting issue. Of course I do love clownfish!

For those who do have happy clown/LPS combos, who came first? The clowns or the LPS? I'm speculating that after my LPS are settled in for a few months, maybe adding clowns might work.

Thoughts?

Yep. I had 2 beautiful bubble tips that I put the clownfish refrigerator magnets in but they wanted nothing to do with it. The frogspawn was on the bottom before then wedged into some live rock for a month when it decided to jump in.

Funny that I just found this post. My clownfish just started hosting in my frogspawn yesterday! The RBTA's been there for a few months, but they didnt go near it. I recently moved the frogspawn from the middle of the tank, to the front right corner, and now they host in it. GO FIGURE!

I got a frogspawn with the hope that I can have clowns host in it in the future, but I am going to let it get settled and grow a while before I even introduce the fish.

any more successful hosting stories?

I had my clown about a year before i got my frogspawn. She went right to it after i put it in. I added a second right next to it after a tank upgrade and she still hosts it. I also added another clown that does the same. I think my frogspawns have gotten used to it.

i think it i clowns to host in anything that looks like an anemone- especially ocealarris and percula. my saddleback hosts in my brain (avatar)

Much like others responses, Had clowns for about 18months. There is a bubble tip rose in there but totally ignores it. Then one day it decided to host in an alveopora that I had for quite some time. Initially caused it to close up and the clown what kindof suck on the polyps causing to close up. After a few weeks both alveopora and clowns seem to adjust to each other and doesn't close up anymore.

As for the rose, still sitting there waiting to be a host.

Hey David,

How long have you had the alveopora? Sorry for the hijack, but I was thinking of trying one.
