My ocellaris has been in my tank now for about 4 months. He has been eating great the whole time. It is a 10g reef, other inhabitants are a yellow clown goby, hi-fin red banded goby, then coral, snails, and hermits. As of 4 days ago he has stopped eating and is breathing very rapidly. There aren't any signs of anything going on other than the rapid breathing. Water levels are all good. nitrite 0, nitrate 0, ammonia 0, salinity 1.024ish other fish are eating, and everything looks great. Water temp is about 78-79. Any ideas whats wrong with him?

I would take some water to the lfs and have them double check it to be safe.

I was planning on taking it tomorrow because I get off work early. Doesn't make sense for only 1 fish to be affected if it was water quality does it?

The only thing that pops in my head is that disease that effects the gills. Its the one where you fresh water dip him and then all the parsites fall off of him like its snowing. not 100% just and idea

Its better to have the water checked out before you start any treatment. While i also agree it might be what saltymight said if you fresh water dip the fish and it doesnt have that disease it could potentially do more harm than good by stressing the fish out more

When I first bought my two Clarkii I placed them into a 40 gallon with my ocellaris. That didn't go over to well! I moved the ocellaris to a 10 gal with a new filter. I placed a new filter cartidge in with an old one to expidite the bacteria culture but it before it could catch up the amonia started to climb. One ocellaris was acting normally and the other nearly died. In the end I moved them back to the 40 gal and moved the clarkii to the 10 gal and all fish are doing well.

The bacteria culture must have cought up.
