Clownfish breeding

My clowns have decided they want to be parents. They've had a few clutches, and they seem to be in a rhythm. So far, they're just making fish food but I'm thinking about trying to raise some. From what I've read, it seems that raising food for the fry is the most involved part of the process. Anybody have first-hand experience with how much work it is involved in growing phyto, rots, and shrimp. Some say it's just a few minutes per day and others act like it is pure torture.

Thanks,
Ivan

Hi Ivan, I raised clowns once back in 2009. I read Joyce Wilkerson's book, Clownfishes. I felt equipped after that and was successful my first try. They start out eating rotifer. I was not good at culturing rotis. Luckily (for me) they don't eat rotifer all that long. I found culturing bbs easy and everything got easier once I got to that stage. Once they morphed into fry fish and I could pulverize flake food it was a breeze. I think I raised 7 and I am sure that I would have gotten better with time. I gave some away and I kept one for 8 years or so until I just rehomed Baby a year or two ago. I did it more for the experience and only did it once. I also raised 15 seahorses which is a lot more work than clownfish but again it was a great experience. Again it was a one time experience. I have the book Clownfishes if you want to borrow it. I did it and you can too, if you want to.

I have Joyce Wilkerson's book, but thank you for the offer. I'm glad to hear you were successful on the first try. It's also good to know that it's less work than the seahorses and gets easier as it goes. I think I'm going to give it a try.

Thanks,
Ivan
