I picked up a perc clown a few days ago; I put him in my quarantine tank and watched him closely. Yesterday I noticed a large white patch on his side, so after doing some research it seems he had Brooklynella hostilis. I treated him with formalin but it was too late as I found him dead this morning. When I picked him up from the store he did not appear to have any problems but it was amazing how fast the disease appeared and killed him.
So, is there any way of telling in the future if this is going to be a problem before I bring one home or is it just a matter of luck? Also, since he was in my qt should I empty it out completely before adding anymore fish in the future or should a 50% water change do the trick. I don't want to pass this on to any other fish in the future. Thanks!
