Clownfish Pairs- How Many?

How may pairs of clownfish can I keep in a 135 gallon tank. It would be a mix of Ocellaris and Percula clowns.

I am going to try 2 pairs of ocellaris clowns, one black and one normal, in my 75g. I would be ready to separate them t the slightest trouble tho.

I have noticed you guys call them "pairs"

Are these pairs from multiple groupings just paired together or are they spawning too?

personally, I look at pairs as a male and a female clownfish that exibit pairing behavior (swimming together 24/7, sleeping together, sometimes hosting together) and I consider mated pairs pairs that have already bred several times with sucessful results.

why would 4 of the same kind of clownfish in a small tank stay separated?? this defies all logic

they will form a group and if there are two females that will end in death for one of them

its pretty simple.

I have 6 pairs in my tank.

what is going on in here

what size tank?

got pictures?

Thanx for the replys everybody, and sorry for the confusion, I'm new to clownfish & anemones. So to restate the question, how many clownfish can I keep in a 135 gallon aquarium? Can it be a mixed group of Ocellaris, Black Ocellaris, and Percula's?

what if you get two different pairs that are from two different complexes like a pair from the skunk complex and a pair from the percula complex?
would that be alright?
im thinking about getting a picasso pair and a white bonnet pair

1 pair

+1000000000

Success of keeping more then one pair in a tank is the exception and not the norm, it is not worth the risk. And by success I mean more then 2 years, anything less then that is not enough time to say that it is working.

So I couldn't keep a group of ocellaris even in a fairly large tank, i.e: my 135 gal? I read the sticky at the top of this forum about clownfish groups in the wild, but that it doesn't always work in aquariums b/c the main pair might force out some of the subordinates. I just thought that since my tank is 6' long, the pair could set-up territory on one half of the tank, and the ones that get forced out would live in the other half of the tank, or I could just give them to a reefer friend of mine across the street.

a group of ocellaris would be an expert level care requirement.

also a large amount of hosts will help

like say 10-20 Anemones.
