How long does this usually take for this to happen? Also, how can you tell if they are male or female from the start? I have one false perc in a 12 gallon tank, and want to add another one, but am unsure of what to look for in another perc to get them to pair. ANy help would be great.

Here's a picture if it helps at all..

um takes some time they start out sexless not male or female they only turn male once they are paired with a female how long have you had your perc what size is it?

I should be fine then. I've had it for about 4 days now. It came from a tank with a bunch of others.

It's currently about 1.5 inches in length, so I went out to the LFS and found one that was a big bigger and now have them together in the tank. So far it seems like they aren't having any issues, and are swimming beside each other. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

No pics yet, I'll take some tomorrow when I get the chance when the lights are on. I just put the other one in this afternoon, so I've been keeping the tank dark to help out with the transition.

well the first 12 hours are the hardest you should be fine its so much easier to do this with the young ones
